I love when a prepped and toned canvas gives indications to what shall live within its dimensions. After toning my canvas red I could faintly see several of the arms and head of an octopus, everything unfolded from there. The only reference I used for this piece was my little model skeleton in an attempt to help with the skull, and strangely it's my least favorite element of the three. The octopus and gem were completed with no references. What is the octopus searching for in that dome piece? In a way this painting correlates to how I feel about a great deal of humanity clearly having lost its mind.
